DEAN HOMER FUNERAL HOME 206 WATER STREET PO BOX 1 DUSHORE, PA 18614 TEL 570 928-8163 FAX 570 928-8116 Email pdh@epix.net OBITUARY April 15, 2013 Herbert William Ruger, age 87, of Coatesville, PA Warren Center, formerly, Bradford County, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013 at the VA Medical Center Coatesville, PA with his loving family at his side. Herbert was born September 11, 1925 in New Milford, PA and his family moved to Sullivan County when he was very young. He was a son of the late Stanley W. & Sara Tiffany Ruger. He attended the Loyalsock Vo-tech High School in Estella and later the Troy High School in Troy, PA. Herb joined the US Army Infantry in June of 1944, during WWII and after the war ended he joined the US Air Force in 1945 and was stationed with the 86th Air Depot in Germany until discharged in November of 1946 with the rank of Corporal. He then re-enlisted into the US Army and extending his service into Vietnam War. He was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal with “V” devise which participation in acts of heroism involving conflict with an armed enemy. He served with the 25th Infantry Division in Germany and Vietnam and retired as a SSgt in 1970. After his discharge he returned to Bradford County and worked Penn DOT, Bishop Bros in Barton, NY and lastly from Wysox Sand & Gravel. In retirement he resided in Wyalusing and could be found at the Friendenshutten Restaurant for breakfast and dinner . He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving: three children: Carol (Joe) Adams, Doylestown, PA, Barry (Brandy) Ruger of Scottsville, MI and Denise (Steve) Baker of Keystone Heights, FL; Stepson; Anthony Bailey, of Kulmbach, Germany; Step-daughter, Crystal (Mike) Wiles of Sayre, PA and a Brother, Gerald Ruger of Rome, PA; eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Barry A Ruger in 1938, Duane Ruger in 1940, and Louis R. Ruger in 1998 and Kenneth E. Ruger in 2012 and a Step-daughter, Edith R. Bailey. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA with the Rev. Robert G. Kaltenbaugh, officiating. Interment will be in the Fairmont Cemetery, Forksville, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. The family will provide the flowers and request that memorial be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or to the charity of your choice. Graveside Military Services will be accorded by members of the US Army Honor’s Detail.
