William Goodell Snyder, age 91, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away at the Sayre Memory Care Residence on June 17, 2025.
He was born on January 10, 1934, at the Mills Hospital in Towanda, PA, to Maynard M. Snyder and Ruth Mitten Snyder of Spring Hill, PA.
“Bill”, as he was known to family, friends, and acquaintances, grew up on Spring Hill where he attended elementary school, subsequently graduating from Wyalusing Valley High School with the Class of 1951.
While in high school, Bill was on the basketball and baseball teams and also held down jobs with The Rocket Courier and Keeler Printing, where he continued to work, for a time, following graduation.
Bill and his lifelong friend, Ron Bellows, enjoyed reminiscing about their time as WVHS athletes, always giving credit to Chuck Smith, a fondly remembered coach. Bill continued to play ball for many years, when adult softball teams proliferated and games were part of the summer entertainment for local communities.
On July 6, 1953, Bill married the former Caryl Mann and, except for two years spent in Falls Church, Virginia, they lived in Wyalusing, raising their family and giving much of their time and talents to the community. They were jointly awarded the Wyalusing Rainbow Club Citizen of the Year award in 2012. Bill and Caryl would have celebrated 72 years of marriage on July 6th.
Bill was employed for over 14 years with Modern Design in Vestal, NY, and for a short time at Automation Services in South Waverly before accepting the position of plant manager for a subsidiary of Arrow United, Inc., of Long Island, NY, that was established in the former American Meter Plant in Wyalusing. He held that position for many years before taking over as vice president of OEM national sales for the company, which was by then Mestek Industries. Bill retired in June of 2004, with 37 years of service to the company.
Bill was an outstanding example of volunteerism and good citizenship, giving back to the Wyalusing and greater community in many ways. He was a member, and past elder of the Wyalusing Presbyterian church, served several terms on the Wyalusing Borough Council, was an active member of the Wyalusing Rainbow Club, as well as serving as president of that organization. He served on the Northern Tier Planning Commission and The Endless Mountains Transportation Authority and had also held membership in the Greater Wyalusing Chamber of Commerce, Wyalusing Community Corporation, Wyalusing Industrial Development Corporation, and the Andaste Council of Boy Scouts. Bill was always willing to lend a hand and open his wallet for any worthy cause.
A friend to many, those fortunate enough to be acquainted with Bill had the highest regard for him. His grandchildren, especially, loved him fiercely and he, in turn, supported and encouraged them, always lifting them up, attending as many of their events as he could, never missing an opportunity to let them know how proud they made him.
Bill is survived by his three children, Scott (Lorna) Snyder, Jeff (Tania) Snyder and Sandra Zangardi (Rob Smith), and a daughter in law, Lucy Snyder. Grandchildren include Warren Snyder, Derek (Kerri) Snyder, Curtis (Sonia) Snyder, Luke Snyder, Veronica (Justin) Buckwalter, Victor (Diona) Snyder, Nicole Zangardi, Michael (Karissa) Zangardi and Bill (Marissa) Zangardi. Bill is also survived by eleven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and sisters-in-law, Dawn Snyder and Mary Elizabeth Snyder.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife, Caryl Mann Snyder, on April 2, 2025, a sister Elinor Keeler, brothers, Jack, Karl, Dave, and Donald Snyder, and a great-granddaughter, Ava Buckwalter.
