Obituary

Mr. Thomas Howard “Tim” Archer, age 82, of Towanda, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 5, 2026, after a prolonged illness.

Born on October 28, 1943, in Sayre, PA, Tim was the beloved son of the late Madison Lemuel and Elizabeth Anna Dutcher Archer. He graduated from Towanda High School as a member of the class of 1961. Following his graduation, Tim honorably served his country in the United States Navy, traveling extensively until his discharge on October 9, 1964, in San Francisco, CA.

After his military service, Tim returned home and worked at the Ingersoll Rand Plant in Athens, then spent three years at GTE Sylvania in Towanda. He later began a dedicated 20-year career as a mail carrier with the United States Postal System in Towanda. Following a 4-wheeler accident that led to early retirement from the Postal Service, Tim continued to contribute to his community by working as a limousine driver and a security guard at DuPont in Towanda.

Tim loved the people he served on his mail route. He once stopped at a florist and sent flowers to an elderly lady who cried when she didn’t get a birthday card in the mail. He gave cookie samples intended for the whole neighborhood all to one little girl who loved to get mail! His favorite mail story was about being chased across a parking lot while carrying a full mail bag by Ronnie Rice on a snow plow!

As a proud and dedicated veteran, Tim was a life member and former Commander of the Towanda American Legion Post #42. He was also a life member of the Monroeton Rod & Gun Club.

Tim enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including cutting firewood, mowing, and spending time with friends. He was passionate about collecting knives and took great pride in his extensive collection. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and enjoyed going to several different tracks throughout the years.

Tim’s final days were made comfortable by the exceptional staff at Towanda Skilled Nursing, Valley Homecare Solutions in Athens and Home Care assistant Theresa Moore. The Sayre Veteran’s affairs were unfailingly, generous, and supportive and Tim’s family is very appreciate of all the wonderful care and support.

He is lovingly survived by his partner in crime and best friend, Pamela Stanfield, her daughter Kristy, and his sister Jane Kintner of Meshoppen, PA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and his faithful four-legged companions, Annie and Herbie.

Tim was predeceased by his parents; brothers: Edward G. Archer (infant), Charles M. Archer, and Robert L. “Nub” Archer; sister Margaret Archer Wood; niece Nancy Wood McQueeney; brothers-in-law Capt. Gerald L. Wood and Jacob Kintner; and sisters-in-law Margaret Archer and Nancy Archer.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Monroeton Cemetery, with Austen A. McGee, a longtime friend officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the United States Navy Funeral Honors Detail and members of the Towanda American Legion Post #42.

Memorial contributions may be made to theBradford County Humane Society, PO Box 179, Ulster, PA 18850 in loving memory of Tim Archer.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water Street, Dushore, PA.
