Mrs. Theresa Ann Stabrylla, age 95, a well-known lifelong resident of Dushore, PA, passed away on Sunday evening, December 31, 2023, with her loving daughter Michele at her side.
TA as she was known by her family and friends, was born on November 19, 1928, in New Albany, PA, a daughter to the late John David and Helen Madeline Bahr Hamer. She graduated from St. Basil’s High School, a member of the class of 1947. She married John Paul Stabrylla on April 10, 1950, in St. Basil’s Catholic Church, with assistant pastor the Rev. Peter J. Alisauskas, performing the ceremony. Her husband John was a highly respected US Army veteran of World War II who survived the Bataan Death March of April of 1942, and then was a prisoner of war for 3 years.
TA started her working career at Weldon’s Mfg. Co., in Lopez and then at the Dushore Lingerie before going to work at GTE Sylvania in Towanda, where she retired after 30 years.
She enjoyed mowing and taking pristine care of her home and tending to all of her beautiful flowers. She was also an excellent baker and was known for her pies, She volunteered for many years helping with local blood drives with the American Red Cross. Decorating for Christmas was a favorite hobby, and she looked forward to it every year. TA was well known for always being eloquently dressed, usually adorned with a fancy hat, especially when going to Mass.
She was an active member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church, in Dushore, PA. She was also a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She was always willing to help with any church function and would help with making pies for St. Basil’s picnics and the Knights of Columbus dinners.

A Transferal Service will be held on Monday, January 15th, 2024, at 10:30 AM from the Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA, and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with her pastor, Rev. Thomas J. Major, presiding. Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, beside her beloved husband John.
Friends and family may call at the Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA, on Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the start of the Transferal at 10:30 AM.
