Mrs. Thelma Marguerite Loper, age 88, of Dushore, PA, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, January 13, 2026, at the River View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wilkes Barre, PA.

Thelma was born on October 7, 1937, in Queens, NY, a daughter of the late George Stanton and Nadia Wermick Young. She graduated from the Mattituck High School in Long Island, NY. She married John Loper on November 4, 1955. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary before John’s passing on March 16, 2013.

Thelma was a homemaker all her life for her husband John and their family. They moved to Dushore in 2005. Thelma and John were loving and caring parents and were blessed with over 60 foster children over the years.

Thelma was a member of the former St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Dushore, PA.

She enjoyed camping and was an avid reader.

Thelma is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister Patricia Young Pooters, and also by a brother-in-law George Capon Jr.

Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
