On Sunday afternoon, October 5, 2025, Sharon Rose Murray, age 79, formerly of Towanda, PA, departed this life. She left this life as she lived it; upright and facing the challenges of the day with resolute determination and an outlook facing success.
Sharon was born on September 10, 1946, in Waverly, NY, one of two
children to the late Eloise Chaffee and Fenton Jones. She spent her youth on the family farm near LeRaysville, PA, and proudly graduated from Northeast Bradford High School, Rome PA, Class of 1964. Following graduation, Sharon continued to work on the family farm and pursue a certificate in cosmetology from the Empire Beauty School in Wilkes Barre, PA. After Graduation she worked as a beautician until moving over to GTE Sylvania powder metallurgy plant in Towanda, PA; where she met the people who would become her lifelong friends and family. She retired from GTE Sylvania (Osram GTE) after 42 years of dedicated service. Hard work, deep friendships, and lifelong connections were formed in a common cause; “Workin’ at The Plant”.
Sharon and former husband John J. Murray of Sullivan County, PA, (deceased 2011) were married in 1967 and began their family. They had two sons; Kevin Patrick Murray and John Darin Murray. Through good times and bad they worked diligently to teach the lessons of hard work, resiliency, and self-confidence. Sharon was a force for fairness and proponent of working hard, because that is the only way to work. Likewise, she applied the same philosophy to her life outside of work. She had many friends, who should remember her with a smile, the good times, and all the great things they did together. The Towanda Police should note the statute of limitations have long expired on most of these unfounded mischievous allegations.
Sharon was an outstanding cook, gardener, and homeowner. She took great pride in maintaining her house and lawn. She loved animals and will certainly be greeted at the other side of the rainbow bridge by many wagging tails. Sharon loved westerns, cowboys, John Wayne, and all things WWII cinema related. She was a proud American, who supported veterans. She will be missed by many.
She was predeceased by her former husband, John in 2011; her father, Fenton C. Jones in 1969, her mother, Eloise C. Bush in 2018; her brother, Larry Jones in 2001, and her stepfather, Harold Bush in 2004.
Sharon is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Pam (Saxe) Murray of Philadelphia, PA, and Halifax, VA; son and daughter-in-law John Darin and Becky (Coverdale) Murray of Bonaire, GA; her four grandchildren: Helen Grace Murray, Thomas John “TJ” and Dr. Katie (Zefran) Murray, Joseph Levi and Dr. Alyssa (Eickstein-Murray) Murray, and Kevin Patrick and Audrey (Swiatkowski) Murray, and two great grandchildren Mila Elizabeth Murray and Kevin Patrick Murray III.
It is with deep gratitude that we also wish to thank Sharon’s dear friend and caretaker, Ms. Laurie Taylor. She was there to laugh, cajole, and love Sharon in the best and worst of times. Her constant care and willingness to put Sharon’s needs forward are beyond admirable. We cannot thank her enough.
Abiding with her wishes, she will be cremated. A celebration of life and sharing of memories will be held at a future date, TBD.
