Mildred Beatrice Hart Frazier

January 22, 1926 — September 11, 2017

Mildred Hart Frazier, 91, of Muncy Valley died at home September 11, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the wife of the late William Frazier, Jr, for 69 years. Surviving are her children Connie Hubbard (George) of Huntington Mills, PA, William Frazier III (Ellen Schaefer) of Muncy Valley, PA, and Linda Fulmer (James) of Hamburg, PA, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of Raymond and Ethel Hart of Estella, PA, and the sister of the late William Hart, Alice Huff and Doris Mitteer. Mildred was a life long resident of Sullivan County where she and her husband owned a dairy farm. Her farming career spanned the time of horses to computers. She taught history and home economics in the Sullivan County School system, retired in 1994, and substituted an additional 12 years for a total of 57 years in public education. As a well-liked and respected teacher, Mildred was known for her storytelling. In her later years when asked about her teaching experience, she always said, “I never had a bad student.”  She graduated from Mansfield State Teachers College in 1947 where she was captain of the girl’s basketball team and received a master’s degree from Marywood College. Mildred was a pillar in her community, serving as a long time 4-H leader, becoming a founding board member of the Sullivan County Library, was on the board of the Sullivan County Historical Society, and was involved in the Muncy Valley Fire Company. She was very active in the Valley United Methodist Church, a church she helped form, and where she played piano and sang in the choir. She was also a member of Alpha Zeta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an educational organization. Mildred liked to travel, and she did so extensively in the United States with her husband and family and managed to visit all 50 states. She was also one of the first Americans to visit China after it reopened to foreign visitors. A long time gardener, Mildred maintained a one-acre garden where she raised most of her family’s food and where she once treed a bear with a pair of garden shears. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on September 30th at the Valley United Methodist Church in Muncy Valley, PA.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Valley United Methodist Church, 1874 Rt 220, Muncy Valley, PA 17758, or Sullivan County Library, PO Box 309, Dushore, PA 18614.
