Michael Stewart
Doss
December 24, 1941 – April 4, 2026
Mr. Michael Stewart Doss, age 84, of 8 Front St., New Albany, PA, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Highlands Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Laporte, PA where he was a patient for the last few days.
Mike was born December 24, 1941, in Newport, RI, a son of the late Joseph Daniel Doss and Dorothy Jeanne Stewart Doss.
He graduated from the Wyalusing Valley High School, a member of the class of 1959. While bowling in New Jersey, he met his future wife, the former Joan Carol Christophel of Montvale, NJ. They were married on August 17, 1963. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this past year.
He entered the Severn School and Prep School for Annapolis in Severna Park, MD, and later joined the United States Army, where he was proud to be chosen “Soldier of the Cycle”. After his honorable service to his country, he returned home to New Jersey and in 1968, Mike and his family moved to New Albany, PA, where he purchased the former Deer Valley Inn, which he owned and operated for 26 ½ years. He then converted the tavern into Mike’s Mobil Mart, a gas station and convenience store. Mike was also a well known contractor and owned 13 apartments in Towanda for many years.
He was a life member of the following organizations: Elks Lodge in Towanda, now in Sayre, PA, Loyalsock Post 996 American Legion, Dushore, PA, Monroeton Rod and Gun Club, and the N.R.A. He also served as a financial trustee and chairman of the Auditing Committee for the Elks Lodge. Mike was a social member of the A.J. Bird Memorial VFW Post in New Albany, PA.
Mike was a true outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and spending time in the woods, especially with his sons and many good friends at their family cabin during bear, turkey, and deer season.
