Mary Patricia Donovan Heim, age 94, of Laporte, PA, passed away on July 21, 2019, at White Horse Village in Newtown Square, PA.
Pat was born November 20, 1924, in Pittsburgh, PA, a daughter of the late Paul J. & Mary Katherine Calnan Donovan. She graduated from Langley High School, in the Sheraden section of Pittsburgh, a member of the class of 1942. After high school she took secretarial classes at the University of Pittsburgh and worked in the corporate office of US Steel.
Pat served as a WAVES in the US Navy during WWII rising to rank of Yeoman 2nd class from 1945 to 1946. After boot camp at Hunter College she was assigned to US Naval Reserve 4th District Legal Office at the Philadelphia Navy Yard as a court reporter and stenographer. There she worked with her future husband Ensign Joseph Heim, who was finishing his active duty commitment as a Defense Counsel for the Courts Martial. After her discharge from the Navy, she returned to Pittsburgh to work in the legal department of US Steel.
She married Joseph E. Heim Jr., of Havertown, PA, on September 6, 1947. They celebrated 49 years of marriage before Joe’s passing on November 13, 1996. They resided in Havertown, PA, Timonium, MD, and Wayne and West Chester, PA before retiring to Laporte in 1988, where they had a summer home on Lake Mokoma since 1953. They were among the original shareholders of Lake Mokoma Association.
Pat was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Laporte, now
part of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. She was a Eucharistic Minister and also took communion to the homebound. She was very active with her parish and in the Laporte community, where she served a term on the Laporte Borough Council, as secretary of the Lake Mokoma Association, past President of the Laporte Women’s Club, and a director of the Lake Mokoma Conservancy. She was a member of the Eagles Mere County Club.
Pat was a loving spouse, mother of five, grandmother of 17, great-grandmother of 29 and aunt to 72 nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Joseph Colby Heim, on July 19, 2006, and by two brothers and four sisters.
A Transferal Service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 10:30 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA 18614 and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA, with Rev. Colin Kay, presiding. Interment will be in Mountain Ash Cemetery, Laporte, PA.
Friends may call on Saturday morning, July 27th, 2019 at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service.
