Margaret Jane McDonough

May 18, 1929 — November 30, 2020

Mrs. Margaret Jane Wilcox McDonough, age 91, of Wyalusing Township, died Monday, November 30, 2020, in Hampstead, North Carolina. 

 

          Margaret was born May 18, 1929, at home in Hollenback, PA, one of 19 children of Gustavus Adolphus and Lena Wandell Wells.

 

Margaret and her siblings attended the 1-room Oak Hill School before she graduated from the Wyalusing High School, Class of 1946. On Aug 8, 1946 she married Oliver W. Wilcox of Sugar Hill, PA, in Blossburg, PA, and they moved to First Street in Wyalusing, then to the former “Cemetery House” in East Wyalusing. Margaret worked at the shoulder pad factory on Main St, Wyalusing, then for People’s State Bank. In 1957 the couple built a home on her family’s homestead in Hollenback and Margaret began to work for the First National Bank of Dushore, later Northern Central Bank, now M & T Bank, where she remained for 31 years until her retirement from there in 1991. Oliver died in 1976. Margaret married Charles McDonough of Hollenback at the Hollenback Church in 1979. He predeceased her in 1984.

 

          After working and living in LeRaysville for several years, Margaret moved to the upstairs of the Old Red House in East Wyalusing in 1996 where she worked tirelessly on gardening and maintenance.

 

           In 2014, Margaret moved to Jacksonville, NC, to live with her daughter Kathy and husband Doug Bowman. For the past 2 years, Margaret has resided at Woodbury Wellness Center in Hampstead, NC. The family would like to thank the staff at WWC for the loving care they provided Margaret. 

 

 

 

 

 

Margaret was a member of the Mehoopany Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by spouses Oliver (Willie) in 1976 and Charlie in 1984; sons Greg (infant) 1947, Oliver 1987, and Maynard 2013; sisters Ruth, Elsie, Helen, Hazel, Charlotte, Dorothy, Amelia and Blanche; brothers Maynard, Martin, Marvin, Dave, and 7 infant siblings.

 

A Celebration of her Life will be held in June of 2021, at the Homer Funeral Home, 83 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA.
