Joseph Arthur Silver Jr.

October 20, 1932 — December 21, 2021

Joseph Arthur Silver Jr., age 89, of Carlisle, PA, died Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at his home with his loving wife Helen at his side.

 

          Joe was born in Buffalo, NY, on October 20, 1932, a son of the late Joseph A. Sr., & Frances Siedler Silver.  He graduated from high school and entered the United States Air Force in August of 1952, during the Korean War.  The Air Force sent him to Syracuse University, and since he was already fluent in German, he learned the Russian language, and finished his Air Force career as an interpreter of the Russian language.

 

          Joe married Helen Hoodak of Lopez, PA, on September 25, 1965.  He became the manager for the Sears stores in Camp Hill and Harrisburg, retiring after 20 years of service.

 

          He was a very faithful member of St. Patrick’s Church in Carlisle, PA. He was a loving spouse, father and grandfather.

          Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law:  Robert (Janet) Silver; Arthur (Evelyn) Silver; and William Silver; a sister, Bernice (Leo) Atlas;  a sister-in-law, Marion Franco; and three brothers-in-law: Stephen Hoodak, Nicholas Hoodak, and John Hoodak.

 

A Transferal Service will be held on Tuesday morning, December 28, 2021, at 9:30 AM from the Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, PA, with the Rev. Thomas J. Major, presiding.  Interment will follow in SS:  Peter and Paul’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Lopez, PA. Military honors will be accorded by members of the United States Air Force Honors Detail.

 

          Friends and family may call on Tuesday morning, December 28, 2021, from 8:30 AM until the start of the transferal service at 9:30 AM at the Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA.

 

          Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 152 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle, PA 17013, or to a charity of your choice.
