Gwenllian Elsie Klus, age 81, of Laporte, PA, passed away on February 25, 2021 at the Highland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Laporte, PA after a years-long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Gwen was born July 30, 1939, in Eagles Mere, daughter of the late Donald H. & Mabel M. Horn Park.  She graduated from St. Basil’s Catholic High School in 1956 and Susquehanna University with a B.A. in Music Education in 1960. It was during her time at Susquehanna that she met her future husband, John Robert Klus.           A lifelong educator, Gwen taught music at several elementary schools in the Watsontown area before teaching full time at Warrior Run Middle School. She later taught Warrior Run AP student’s language and computer skills in the mid-1980 upon completing her Master’s Degree in Education. She continued her passion by becoming a substitute teacher for Sullivan County schools well into her 70’s after retiring to Laporte in 2001.

Gwen has always been a mainstay in local musical endeavors wherever she lived. She is fondly remembered as the frequent accompanist for Montgomery Area HS choral concerts and musicals and as an active participant in Williamsport theater leagues throughout the 70’s and 80’s. She volunteered as Choral Director for numerous church choirs throughout her lifetime and was an active member of the Dushore Music Club in her retirement.

She was active in the Methodist church, most recently as a member of the Eagles Mere Federated, and later the Laporte Community Churches.
