Edith M. Fenton Strope

February 17, 1935 — April 5, 2017

Edith M. Fenton Strope, of Hollenback was born in Wilmot Township on February 17th, 1935 to the late Rufus Fenton and Ruth Neuber Fenton, one of 13 children. After declining health, Edie left to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 5th, 2017 with her loving husband and daughter by her side.             Edie attended Wyalusing High School before beginning work at Sullcraft Mfg. Co. sewing factory. She later began working at GTE Sylvania where she stayed until her retirement in 1993.             She and her husband, H. Edward Strope, were married on July 17th, 1976 and shared many happy times together. Edie’s first priority was always her family and loved ones. Her garden came in a strong second. She used one to serve the other, and, as a result, she always cooked enough to feed an army or, more often, a couple of passing teenagers. She always had a plate of food and an extra bed for those who needed it. Later in life, she and Ed moved to Downingtown, PA to be close to their daughter and grandchildren.             Her generosity and her never-failing ability to “tell it like it is” are two traits her family and friends will always remember about her.             She was predeceased by three infant siblings; two sisters, Annabelle and Dolly; and two brothers, Tracy and Donald. She leaves behind her husband and her two children: Tim Fenton of Sugar Run, PA and his wife, Lori; and Tammy Fenton-Ward of Downingtown, PA and her husband, Robert. She also leaves behind five siblings: Harold, Lula Belle, Arthur, Joan, and Lyle. Her legacy includes many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.                     Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 15th at St. John’s Church on Kisner Rd in Wilmot Township at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Phyllis A. Pelletier, officiating.  Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.             Friends and family are invited to a visiting hour from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. preceding the service.             A reception will be held at Zion Church in Dushore beginning at 12:00 Noon.             In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edie’s memory to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.   Funeral arrangements are under the direction to the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA 18853.             To send condolences or sign the e-guestbook, please go to www.homerfuneralhome.com.
