Mr. Dominic B. Grandinetti II, age 68, passed away on July 19, 2018, at his home in Florida with family by his side. He was born on April 2, 1950, in Philadelphia, PA.
He graduated from Horseheads Senior High School in 1969. He was a Mid-Atlantic Middleweight Champion Boxer, mentored by his father, the late Dominic “Mickey” Grandinetti at Hennley’s Boys Gym located in Philly.
Dominic had many ventures in his life, including being a carpenter, a licensed hairdresser with his own shop and owned a gas station in his home town. He also ran a trucking company and he opened a Bar and Grill in Lake Winola in 1986, known as “Dominic’s Den”.
He was a beloved softball and swimming coach. He coached the Tunkhannock Tiger Shark age group swim team in the 1980’s. Dominic, Katrina, and Judy may have been his favorite swimmers, but he was admired by many of the kids for his love of coaching was undeniable. He was known for piling the swimmers in his black hearse for all the away meets, letting everyone know the Tiger Sharks were a force to be reckoned with. He would entertain his patrons at Dominic’s Den with bands on Friday, and had a dart and billiard team and even had a golfing tournament on the frozen lake where he pushed a keg of beer on a dolly to make sure the participants didn’t get thirsty! The stories are endless….
Dominic will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, loud laugh, and warm smile and his loving generosity toward others and his genuine desire for everyone to succeed.
