July 7, 1950 — March 29, 2019

Dennis Patrick Fries, age 68, of Dushore, PA, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019 at home with his loving family at his side.

Denny was born July 7, 1950, a son of the late Leo Donald and Mary Margaret Scanlin Fries.  He attended St. Basil’s High School until it closed in 1966, and graduated from the Sullivan County High School, a member of the class of 1968.

He graduated from the Rex Cataldo Barber School in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and interned at Joe Kelly’s Barber Shop in Mildred, PA.

He entered the United States Army on March 16, 1970, serving in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on October 21, 1971. In 1972, he began working at DuPont Co., in Towanda, PA, from which he retired in 2013, after 41 years of service.

He was a very active member of St. Basil’s church, Dushore, PA, where he was involved with all parish activities.  He was the superintendent of St. Basil’s Cemetery from 2007 to 2016.  He maintained the cemetery and parish grounds in an immaculate condition.  When not caring for the cemetery, he worked at Fitzpatrick and Lambert, Inc., shuttling automobiles to and from their customers and going to the car auctions.  Even after stepping down as superintendent, he continued mowing St. Francis Cummiskey Cemetery in Wilmot throughout 2018. He was also active in the Dushore Ambulance and Fire Company for many years.

Denny was a member of St. John Neumann Council #12406, Knights of Columbus, and a member of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore, PA.

He was a loving father and grandfather and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. He enjoyed snowmobiling in NY State with friends and attending Minor League Baseball games. He also liked classic cars.
