Caryl R. Snyder died on April 2, 2025, at the Sayre Memory Care Residence, Sayre, Pennsylvania.

Caryl was born at home, in Wyalusing, on June 1, 1935, to Lillian and Harold "Puss" Mann. Until her passing, Caryl enjoyed the distinction of being the last living Wyalusing resident born in the borough.

Caryl graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School in 1953 and shortly thereafter married William “Bill” Snyder. Bill and Caryl would have celebrated 72 years of marriage on July 6th.

Besides keeping house for her family, Caryl was employed by the Wyalusing Area School District as a classroom and library aide, and later worked at the Rocket Courier newspaper for many years before applying her bookkeeping skills in the accounting department at Taylor Packing, Inc.

Throughout her adult life Caryl was active in the community, volunteering her time and talents in numerous capacities. She was a lifelong member of the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and a deacon, and sang soprano in the church choir. In earlier years, she was also a member of the Wyalusing Choraliers. Caryl’s other affiliations included the Wyalusing Rainbow Club, Wyalusing Library Board of Trustees, the Bradford County Library Advisory Board, and the “Foster Grandparents” program.

Caryl enjoyed summers at the cottage that she and Bill owned on the Wyalusing Creek, where they hosted many picnics for family and friends. Their children, grandchildren, and even some of their great grandchildren, made lifelong memories there. Caryl looked forward, every spring, to making the rounds of the local greenhouses, purchasing her favorite plants, marigolds and geraniums, which she would find a home for in her numerous flower beds and pots as soon as she was sure that any danger of frost had passed.

In addition to her parents, Caryl was preceded in death by her sister, Margot “Peg” Shaffer, and a great-granddaughter, Ava Buckwalter.

Caryl is survived by her husband, William G. Snyder, their three children, Scott (Lorna) Snyder, Jeff (Tania) Snyder and Sandra Zangardi (Rob Smith), and a daughter in law, Lucy Snyder. Grandchildren include Warren Snyder, Derek (Kerri) Snyder, Curtis (Sonia) Snyder, Luke Snyder, Veronica (Justin) Buckwalter, Victor (Diona) Snyder, Nicole Zangardi, Michael (Karissa) Zangardi, and Bill (Marissa) Zangardi. Caryl is also survived by eleven great grandchildren, and several nieces. The family is grateful to Dawn Snyder for her unwavering kindness, caring, and support.

A memorial service for Caryl and Bill will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at the Homer Funeral Home, 83 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA, with the Rev. Dr. Karen Ballard officiating.
