Obituary

Carolynn Anne Yonkin Their Fuller, age 81, of North Port, FL, passed away on April 5, 2026.

Carolynn was born November 23,1944, in Sayre, PA, a daughter of the late Robert Joseph and Evelyn Caroline Hottenstein Yonkin. She graduated from Turnpike High School in Mildred, PA, in 1962.

Carolynn grew up on a dairy and vegetable farm in Dushore, PA. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Wilkes University and her master’s degree from Syracuse University. While attending Wilkes she paid for her education by working nights in the cafeteria. Upon graduation from Wilkes, she pursued a career in the medical field, first working in various hospitals on Long Island and NYS, finally settling in Elmira, NY.

Starting as a laboratory technician at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center she worked her way up to become the Director of Laboratories of that Medical Center. Carolynn would achieve success in whatever field she chose to pursue. She applied for and was accepted to be the first female Forest Ranger in New York State; however, her friends convinced her to reject their offer.

There is a funny story about how Carolynn met Fred in 1990. A mutual friend connected Fred and Carolynn when he needed help from a person with knowledge of how to hook up and tow Fred’s malfunctioning Jeep back to MD where Fred worked at the National Security Agency. Well, wanting to make a good impression, one beautiful autumn day Fred presented himself at Carolynn’s door (in Big Flats, NY) with a box of Whitman’s chocolates. Before him stood this 5-foot-tall woman, with no makeup, and her hair tied up in a bun. Fred thought “this isn’t going to work; she looks like a librarian”. She thanked him, invited him in and fixed a cocktail for each of them. Fred sat on the patio facing the rear of the house and she stood at the door, then she said, “excuse me” and disappeared into the house. Emerging a couple minutes later, with a rifle in her hand, she appeared to be aiming it directly at Fred. Fred’s first thought was “maybe she doesn’t like chocolates”, and his second thought was, “maybe I should duck”. Then she said, “don’t move” and she “fired”. Ha, she missed Fred thought, then Carolynn ran past Fred out to her garden (about 60 yards away) to administer the coup-de-gras to the woodchuck that was eating carrots from her garden. Well, it turns out that Carolynn was no librarian, she was fun, loved to dance, a computer guru, super intelligent, and a marksman with a rifle. As it turned out, that date culminated in a wonderful 35-year long marriage between two people who loved one-another dearly. There is a chapter in Fred’s book (Analog Spooks) that recounts the story of their first date, that chapter is called “Carolynn”.

From a very young age Carolynn was determined to excel, to learn everything she could about any subject. She was loved and admired by everyone who knew her. She loved golf, she served as the President of the Bath Country Club Ladies League, she won the BCC Presidents’ Cup Championship in 2004, she was the Senior Club Champion in 2010, the BCC 18-hole Match-Play Champion in 2012, and she sunk a Hole-in-One during league-play in 2024. She enjoyed reading (and absorbed knowledge like a sponge), fishing, creating fantastic gardens, mowing, she could build computers, she loved to fix things that were broken. She loved to harvest our own apples, pears, cherries, pick blueberries, can and make fantastic pies. She created flower beds out of field stone and planted beautiful flowers. Out of curiosity she became a professional locksmith, a talent that came in handy on many occasions. Upon their marriage Carolynn became the mother of Fred’s 4 kids, then 6 grandkids, and 9 great- grandkids, who loved Carolynn dearly.

May she enjoy the hereafter with her family, friends, and pets who have gone before her. She has always been my angel, and now she resides at the side of God.

A memorial service celebrating Carolynn’s life will be held at the Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Ron Dyer officiating.
