Barbara Ellen Beck

Mrs. Barbara Ellen Beck, well-known resident of Northumberland, PA, passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2025, with her loving daughters at her side.

Barbara was born February 8, 1933, in Shamokin, PA, a daughter of the late Peter and Goldie Eisenhart Yeager. She graduated from Sunbury High School, a member of the class of 1950. She continued her education at Linden Hall Academy, Lititz, PA, and received her associate’s degree in liberal arts.

She married George Shelton Beck of Sunbury, PA, who predeceased her on October 11, 1982.

Barbara worked as the manager for the Beck Electric Gift Shop.

She enjoyed swimming, cross-country skiing, and running, and was a long-time benefactor of Bucknell University, where she founded the George Shelton Beck Foundation for Electrical Engineering, to help future students expand their education in her late husband’s footsteps. She also greatly enjoyed keeping up with current events.

Barbara was also a long-time member of the Eagles Mere County Club, where she had a summer residence on Laporte Avenue.

Special friend of the family, Bruce Peyser of St. Petersburg, Florida

Four Grandchildren: Shelley Ryan Scalise, Louisa Ryan Berlinger, Jennifer Haddon Hill and Mallory Haddon Holoman.

Great grandchildren: Frederica Ryan Berlinger, Basel George Berlinger, Parker and Hudson Holoman and Georgiana Ryan Scalise.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two daughters: Karen L. Beck on August 18, 1982, and Suellen Beck on January 15, 2015, and a granddaughter Sarah E. Haddon on June 12, 1984.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
