Mr. Alois E. Auer, age 94, of North St., Wyalusing, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, April 26, 2026, at the Sayre Health Care Center with loving family at his side.

Louie as he was known by his family and friends, was born on February 24, 1932, in Schirmdors, Austria, a son of the late Alois and Stephanie Yartschitsch Auer. He came with his parents and three younger siblings to the United States on August 6, 1951.

He married the former Eileen Marcy Vargason on March 1, 1969, and they raised two sons and enjoyed 44 years of marriage before her passing on October 3, 2014.

Lou worked for Procter & Gamble for many years before his retirement.

He was of the Catholic faith.

He enjoyed his family, his dogs, and tinkering on different projects like his water wheel that generated electricity to his home. He also had a windmill that he used to run a compressor to fill tractor tires. He loved the simple country living, steam engines, hunting, and cutting firewood.

Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by an infant daughter Marcy Auer and his sons Harry James Auer and Joseph Auer. He was also predeceased by a sister Maria H. Auer Walsh, son-in-law James Shepard, and brothers-in-laws Gerald Vargason and Ernest “Ernie” Vargason.

A Transferal Service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM from the Homer Funeral Home, 83 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Wyalusing, PA, with the Rev. Jose Joseph Kuriappilly, presiding. Interment will follow in the French Asylum Cemetery.

Family and friends may call on Monday morning, May 4, 2026, from 9:30 AM until the start of the Transferal Service at 11:00 AM in the Homer Funeral Home, Wyalusing, PA.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Homer Funeral Home, 83 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA.
