Agnes Cecelia Yarchak

  Agnes C. Yarchak, 89, of Laporte, PA passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at her home with her loving family at her side.             Agnes was born July 28, 1927 in Philadlephia, PA, a daughter of the late   James Francis & Mary Agnes Nelson Whelan.  She attended Hallehan Catholic High School in Philadelphia, PA.                        Agnes began working for Bell Telephone Company of PA as an operator.  She married Joseph Yarchak of Philadelphia on October 30, 1954.  They had a summer home in Laporte for many years, retiring there in 1997.  Joseph predeceased her on March 11, 2000.             Agnes was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Laporte, and St. Francis of Assisi, Mildred, PA, and was very active with parish activities.  Agnes took care of the Altar Linens and sewed the veils that cover the holy statues during Lent. She was a Eucharistic Minister for 14 years, taking communion to the Highlands.  She was a volunteer for the Sullivan County Bow Festival, and the annual Laporte Fireman’s Carnival. She was a long time member of the Laporte Women’s Club.              Agnes enjoyed quilting, embroidery, winning at bingo, spending time with her grandchildren, traveling and sitting under the tree at Lake Mokoma.   Surviving: Son: Joseph (Kathy) Yarchak,                                       Pidgeon Forge, TN   Three daughters: Mary Agnes (Vicki) Handzus,                                   Laporte, PA JoAnn (Terry) Moyer,                                             Green Lane, PA Teresa (Brian) Peirce,                                             Dresher, PA   7 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.               A Transferal Service will be held Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 10:30 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with Rev. Richard Rojas, her pastor, presiding.  Interment will follow in Mountain Ash Cemetery, Laporte, PA             Friends may call at the P.
