Lincoln "Linc" Welles Sr.

Mr. Lincoln Welles Sr., age 87, of Wyalusing, PA passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the Towanda Guthrie Memorial Hospital. Linc was born on May 9, 1928 in Sayre, PA, a son of the late Clayton Sr. and Julia Campbell Welles. He married the former Jane E. Harris on May 22, 1949 and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage before her passing on June 8, 2010. Linc graduated from the Wyalusing High School in the class of 1946. He attended Mansfield State Teachers School. Linc enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until 1954 where he attained the rank of First Lieutenant. He served as a pilot and aviation instructor, having trained pilots on the T-6 aircraft. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force, Linc, Jane, and their family moved back to the Wyalusing area, where he began working at the Welles Mill Co., from which he retired as the President in 1993. Linc loved spending time with his family, especially all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church, where he was a former elder and a member of the “Choraliers”. He loved to sing and participated in many community theater plays in PA and in FL. Linc loved playing baseball and basketball. He was the first president of the Wyalusing Rams Booster Club, where he was instrumental in getting the stadium lights for night football with Joe Bride, Doc Pete, and Harold Cobb. He served on the Boy Scouts of America Council as well as being an Advisory Board member. Linc was an active member of the Wyalusing Rainbow Club his whole life. He enjoyed playing golf and was a past director of Towanda Country Club. He was also a former Director and Past President of the Cooperative Feed Dealers, the Eastern Federation of Feed Merchants, and Penn Ag Industries. Linc was a member of the Board of Trustees at the Towanda Memorial Hospital. He was a 50 year member of the Wyalusing Masonic Lodge, as well as a member of the Wyalusing American Legion Post #534, and the Irem Temple Shriners. Linc was an avid hunter and fisherman and will be missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by Sister: Anne Welles Dillon. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016, at 4:00 P.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, with the Rev. Dr. Barry R. Ballard officiating. Interment will follow in the Wyalusing Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 2:00 P.M. until the start of the service at 4:00 P.M. Military Honors will be accorded by member of Wyalusing Post #534 American Legion. There will be a pass in review at 3:45 P.M. on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the funeral home. The flowers will be provided by the family.
