John "Nicker" W. Guglielmi

John W. “Nicker” Guglielmi, age 88, of Mildred, PA passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law Bob & Mary Guglielmi in Laporte, PA. Nicker was born on August 22, 1927 in Mildred, a son of the late John & Nazarena Calandrini Guglielmi. He graduated from Cherry Township High School, a member of the class of 1945. He enlisted in the US Navy after graduation and served on the USS Sicily and was later drafted into the US Army. He served as a Military Police Platoon Sergeant for 18 months in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He married the former Regina (Rege) M. Meehan on January 27, 1951. She predeceased him on December 30, 1997. After serving in the military, Nicker was a deep coal miner and construction worker for several years before joining the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union. He was a union bricklayer for over 35 years. Additionally, he and his brother Geno, coached the Ber-Mil Midget League for a number of years in the 1960s. He also coached the Sullivan County American Legion baseball team. Nicker was extremely proud of his family often telling anyone who would listen of his four Eagle Scout grandsons and Silver Award Girl Scout granddaughter. He was also proud that every male member of his “outfit” served as an officer in the US Army with a combined 74 years of active service. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, a member and past commander of McDermott Post #452 American Legion, Mildred, and a member of White Ash Land Association. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Major (Retired) William & Patricia Guglielmi of Tampa, FL and Colonel (Retired) Robert & Mary Lynch Guglielmi of Laporte, PA and a sister in law, Arline Meehan of Monroeton, PA. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Megan Sunday, and four grandsons, Keith, James, Thomas, and Bret, three great grandsons, John, Nicholas and Luke and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers: Bruno John Guglielmi Sr. and Geno “Gag” Guglielmi, and a sister, Norma Jean McCobin. A Transferal Service will be held on Saturday, January 30th at 10:00 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, PA with his pastor, the Rev. Richard Rojas, presiding. Interment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, January 29th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Graveside Military Services will be accorded by members of McDermott Post #452 American Legion in Mildred and the US Army Honors Detail. Members are asked to assemble and pass in review on Friday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
