Richard "Dick" James Harney

Richard J. “Dick” Harney, age 74, of Dushore, PA passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, with his loving family at his side. Dick was born December 2, 1941 in New Albany, PA, a son of the late Paul Joseph Harney and Pearl Clara Rinebold Harney. He graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School, a member of the class of 1961. He served in the US Army and was discharged in 1965. He worked his way to manager at the former Endicott Johnson Shoe Mfg. Company of Mildred where he worked for 29 years until it closed. He then opened up Harney’s Garage and Inspection Center which he operated until his passing. Dick was a member of St. Basil’s Church in Dushore. He enjoyed hunting and trapping and also helping out on the family farm. Surviving: Two sons: Timothy Harney Dushore, PA Richard Harney Dushore, PA Daughter: Melissa (Donald) O’Conner Mildred, PA Brother: Joseph Harney Dushore, PA Sister: Marie McKernan Dushore, PA Eight grandchildren: Felicia Burgess, Chris O’Conner, Timothy Harney, Olivia Harney, Stella Harney, August Harney, Hazel Harney and Samantha Harney; four great grandchildren: Jaidyn Maddox, Ashlyn Burgess, Isaiah Burgess and Owen O’Conner; three nephews: James McKernan, Brian Hunsinger and Mark Hunsinger, and a great nephew: Derek Frederick; he was predeceased by a grandson, Silas Harney, a niece, Amy Frederick and two half-brothers Harold Hunsinger and Donald Hunsinger. A Transferal Service will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Richard Rojas, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 27, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. and on Thursday morning from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the Transferal Service. The family will provide the flowers and ask that memorial contributions be sent to the Dushore Fire and Ambulance Assn., PO Box 1, Dushore, PA 18614.
