Lloyd Paul Crawford

June 20, 1930 — January 14, 2016

Lloyd Paul Crawford, age 85, of Sugar Run, (Hollenback) PA, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Gatehouse Hospice Unit in Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport, PA with his loving family at his side. Lloyd was born on June 20, 1930 in Dushore, Cherry Township, PA a son of the late Warren James & Leontine Fenton Crawford. He graduated from the Tunkhannock High School a member of the class of 1950. From July 1954 until August 1956 he honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was very proud to have been stationed in Alaska. While serving in the Army he was a mechanic. He married the former Doris Jean VanNoy of Troy, PA on November 3, 1957 in the East Troy Baptist Church. After getting married he spent many years farming. In 1969, he went to work at GTE Sylvania, now known as GTP and also worked at the Endicott Johnson Shoe Factory in Mildred, PA. He retired from GTE Sylvania in 1989 after 20 years of service. In retirement he worked part-time for Tuscarora Wayne Insurance and for Ace Hardware. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting and woodworking. He was an accomplished woodworker having crafted many things from beds and dressers to tiny little baskets carved from cherry pits. He was also known for gardening skills—known especially as the Spud King. In earlier years he enjoyed hiking, fishing and camping with his family. Lloyd had a warm smile and was always quick to tell a joke or a story. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. Todd (Kathy) Crawford, Spring Lake, PA Michael Todd Crawford, Sugar Run, PA Six brothers: James Crawford, New Albany, PA Donald Crawford, Tunkhannock, PA Gordon (Pattie) Crawford, New Albany, PA Erven (June) Crawford, New Albany, PA Jesse (Marie) Crawford, Elmira, NY Carl (Linda) Crawford, Dushore, PA Two sisters: Evelyn Shaffer, Perkinsville, NY Marilyn (Francis) Stringham, Gillet, PA Also surviving are ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lloyd was predeceased in death by his mother Leontine on April 25, 1974 and by his father Warren on October 24, 1984. Also by his brothers, Clayton Carl Crawford on March 25, 1972, Walter Charles Crawford on July 4, 2010, Lewis Preston Crawford Sr. on April 1, 2011, and a grandson Brandon Alan “Turtle” Crawford on October 15, 2008, and by a sister Mary Anna Crawford Barber on June 26, 2006. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA with the Rev. Heather M. Baker-McAllister, officiating. Interment will follow in the Quicks Bend Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Monday morning, January 18, 2016 from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA. The family will provide the flowers and ask that memorial contributions be made to the Guthrie Dialysis Center, 1 Guthrie Square, Sayre, PA 18840 or to the Area Agency on Aging, 220 Main Street, Unit 2, Towanda, PA 18848 in loving memory of Lloyd Paul Crawford.
