David Hopkins

June 8, 1928 — February 21, 2015

David Hopkins, age 86, of Herrickville, PA passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015 at his home with his loving family at his side. David was born in Plymouth, PA, on June 8, 1928, the son of the late Frank B. and Margaret Howell Hopkins. He graduated from the Plymouth High School in the class of 1946, where he wrestled and played football. After school he enlisted in the United States Army, from which he was honorably discharged after a year. After returning home he attended Penn State Wilkes-Barre where he studied drafting. He went to work at GTE Sylvania as a design draftsman where he was part of the team that designed and patented a new process. He retired from Sylvania after 40 years in 1992. He met and married the former Judy Conner of Town Hill, PA on December 3, 1966, they recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. David was a member of the Camptown Presbyterian Church where he was a ruling elder, Sunday school teacher, choir member, trustee, and he truly loved the Lord. He was also a member of the Camptown Men’s Club, where he was very involved with the Camptown Races for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 471 F.&A.M., LeRaysville, PA. He was a member of the NRA. He was also a member of the Sylvania bowling league and Men’s Chorus. David was a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, Towanda and Williamsport. He loved spending time with his family, he took a very active role in raising his grandchildren. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He liked boating, water skiing, golfing, was a master fixer-upper and never without a roll of duct tape. He loved traveling, especially to Westport, Canada with his family, and he also took two over the road excursions to Alaska. Survived by: Spouse Judy Hopkins at home Children and their respective families: Sue M. Parry and her son Fred (Megan) Parry Jr. and their children; Meadow and Laken Amy J. Snell and her children Jacob, David, Katherine, and Joshua. Cheryl B. (Daniel) Traver and their daughter Lita Brian D (Atisha) Hopkins and their sons Brady and Daylan Deanna J (Bert) Vaskas and their children Alexis, Zane, and Adrianna. Sisters-in-law: Eve Ridall Newark, DE Betty Conner Asylum, PA Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a grandson Karson Riley Hopkins in 2011, son-in-law Fred L Parry Sr. in 2014, and two brothers-in-laws; Russell Conner in 1993 and Frank Ridall in 2006. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February, 28, 2015 at 12:00 P.M. at the Camptown Community Church, Camptown, PA, with Pastor David Dewing officiating. Friends and family may call at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
