He grew up in Mildred hauling coal with his father and doing masonry jobs around Sullivan County after school. He graduated from the Cherry Township High School a member of the class of 1956 He worked for a short time at the Endicott Johnson Shoe Mfg. Plant in Mildred. He married the former Beverly Steinruck of Laporte on May 20, 1960 and they built his dream home, the stone house that was his home to the day of his passing. Tom started a roofing and siding contracting business in the late 1960’s which he worked at during the day and at GTE at night. Over the years, he and his crews roofed and sided most of the homes in the area. Hard work was a way of life with Tom right up to his last day. He loved horses and owned many over the years on his farm, along with cows and pigs. He enjoyed going to the Middleburg Horse Auction each month and had many friends there.
