Bier, age 81, of New Albany, PA passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Muncy Valley Hospital, Muncy, PA. Rudi was born June 23, 1933 in Thalichtenberg, Germany a son of the late Jakob & Alma Simen Bier. He finished school and worked in Coal Mines in France and later as a stonemason in Germany. He came to the United States in 1970 and lived in Dushore. He later moved to New Hope where he was employed by a contractor as a stonemason restoring historic homes. He also worked for Raymond Co. where he did stone work on bridges in New York City. He returned to New Albany in 1976 where he was self-employed as a stonemason until his retirement. He married the former Erna Franziska Schäfer of Hostenbach, Saarbrucken on July 10, 1955. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary last month. He was a member of the New Apostolic Church in Williamsport, PA Surviving: Spouse: Erna at home Two daughters: Ruth Bittell Lansdale, PA Nency Taffe Ulster, PA Three grandchildren: April Bittell of Sellersville, PA, Eric Bittell of Custer City, PA and Susan Taffe Reed of Wyalusing, PA Three great grandchildren, Lila Bumm, Natalie Bittell and Orion Bittell. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA with the Rev. Greg Frymoyer officiating. Interment will be in Peace Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Friday, August 8, 2014 from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service.
