DEAN HOMER FUNERAL HOME 206 WATER STREET PO BOX 1 DUSHORE, PA 18614 TEL 570 928-8163 FAX 570 928-8116 Email pdh@epix.net OBITUARY May 14, 2014 Mrs. Ethel Irene Sandusky, age 88, well known co-proprietor of Sandy’s Bar, of Satterfield, Cherry Township, PA passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Highlands Care Center, in Laporte, PA. Ethel was born in Turbotville, PA on September 27, 1925 the daughter of the late Samuel & Ocie Ellen Sanders Smith. Her family moved to Davidson Township and she graduated from Sonestown High School. She married the late Harry Pete Sandusky of Coraopolis, PA, whom she met while he was stationed at the Red Rock Air Base, on September 19, 1959. They celebrated their fifty-fourth wedding anniversary before Harry’s passing on January 3, 2014. After Harry retired from the Air Force, he and Ethel purchased Mac’s Bar from Agatha McDonald and changed the name to Sandy’s Bar. Ethel and Harry operated the bar for twenty-eight years until they retired in 1998. Ethel served the finest and largest hamburgers in Sullivan County. She also worked at the Endicott Johnson Shoe Factory in Mildred, PA. Surviving: Son: Matthew (Susan) Sandusky Denver, PA Two daughters: Stacy Sandusky Satterfield, PA Jan (James) Ritinski Dushore, PA Sister-in-law: Helen Jean Harriger Spartanburg, SC And numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Ethel was predeceased by a sister, Anna Mae Sherwood of Dushore. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, pastor of IHM Parish, presiding. Interment will be in Peace Cemetery, Dushore, PA Friends may call at the Homer funeral home on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
