Christini, age 74, a well-known, respected, and loved community member of Towanda, PA passed away on Sunday, March 02, 2014 at the NYP/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City with his loving family at his side. Jim was born December 19, 1939, a son of James V. & Mary L. Hubiak Christini of Mildred, PA. He graduated from Turnpike High School in Mildred, a member of the class of 1957. He received his BS in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University and his MS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware. He then served two years in the United States Army stationed in Ft Sill Oklahoma. He was honorably discharged in July 1963 having achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Jim married the former Lucille Tubach of Dushore on August 17, 1963. They recently celebrated fifty years of marriage and have resided in Towanda since 1964 where they raised their four sons. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church in Towanda, PA, and was very active in many aspects of parish and school activities over the years. Jim was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus and served as a lector. He served St. Agnes School for many years as school board president, building and grounds chairperson, and basketball assistant. He also served his community in many areas over the years, including charter member and president of the Jaycees organization, scout leader and committee chairperson of the Boy Scouts, manager for the Towanda Little League, member of the Rotary Club, president and member of the Towanda Borough Council, Mardi Gras Ball chairman, Memorial Hospital Charity Ball committees, and current secretary of the Towanda Lions Club. Professionally he worked at Sylvania (currently GTP) for 34 years, retiring in 1998. His career began in plant engineering, and he later became a manager in the tungsten, cobalt, and chemical processing areas. He was awarded fifteen U.S. patents and the GTE Leslie Warner Technical Achievement Award. He was recognized internationally as an expert in those areas of chemical processing and maintained an active consulting business after his retirement through this year. For the past 20 years, Jim, Lucille, and their family have enjoyed owning and operating Dalhousie Lodge Cottages, a summer vacation spot in Ontario, Canada which many area families continue to enjoy on an annual basis. He is survived by his spouse Lucille at home, four sons and daughters-in-law: Mark & Julie Christini of Towanda, PA; Michael & Amanda Christini of Bala Cynwyd, PA; David & Dionne Christini of Brooklyn, NY; and Steven Christini of Philadelphia, PA. He and Lucille have eight grandchildren: Carolyn, Maria, and Cecelia of Towanda, PA; Cole, Ella, and Reid of Brooklyn, NY; and Devon and Kate of Bala Cynwyd, PA. Jim is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law: Ted & Kathleen Christini and Roy & Joyce Christini; an aunt, Irene Gattuso; and uncle, John Hubiak. Also surviving are special in-laws: Irene Tubach, Paul & Barbara Tubach, and John & Mary Frances Cummiskey, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his many wonderful friends and especially by his Coffee Buddies at the Weigh Station Café. Visitation will be Friday, March 7, from 3-7 PM at P.Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Towanda on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 10:00 AM with his pastor, the Rev. Edward L. Michelini, presiding. A funeral luncheon will follow at the JFK Hall of St. Agnes School in Towanda. Interment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Mildred, PA, at the convenience of the family.
