Herbert Morton Preston

Well known logger, Herbert M. Preston, age 92, of Wyalusing, PA passed away on Wednesday night, December 18, 2013, at the Skilled Nursing Facility, in Towanda, PA, with his loving family at his side.

Herb was born in Beaumont, PA on May 6, 1921, a son the late Charles and Sybil Clark Preston. He served in WWII in the US Army in Central Europe. He met and married the former Doris Neiley of Wyalusing, PA; she predeceased him on August 2, 1999. In his early years he worked with his father farming and logging, he then started Herb Preston Logging of Wyalusing, which he continued to run until his passing. His son John worked with him in the logging business since 1980. Herb was proud to say that he delivered the very first load of pulp wood to Masonite when it opened. He was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Herb was a member of the American Legion Post #534, Wyalusing, PA. He loved his job, running bulldozers well into his 80’s, driving trucks, and delegating jobs. Herb hosted the “Herbie church” every Sunday morning from 9:00 - ? He loved to travel around the country with his wife by his side. Herb was an avid reader, he especially loved the westerns.

18 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, special pet; Bob the dog.

He was predeceased by two brothers; Paul Preston and Clyde Preston, and a sister Ruth Foisy; and special dogs; Carmel and Honey.

Funeral Services will be held on December 21, 2013, at 11:00A.M., at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA with the Rev. William L. Westbrook Sr., officiating. Interment will be in the Camptown Cemetery, Camptown, PA.

Friends and family may call at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA on December 20, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00P.M. and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., and also on Saturday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 11:00 A.M.

Graveside Military Services will be accorded by members of Wyalusing Post #534, Wyalusing, PA.

Memorial contribution may be made to the Towanda Skilled Nursing Unit, One Hospital Drive, Towanda, PA 18848.
