Chaffee, age 88, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Robert was born on September 24, 1925 in Kingston, PA, a son of the late Maurice and Marion Homet Chaffee. He attended Highland Park High School, New Brunswick, NJ. After graduating he enlisted into the United States Army in 1943, where he served in France, was captured and later escaped. Robert returned home and attended Rutgers University and then Michigan University, where he received a degree in chemical engineering. Soon thereafter he met and married the former Helen Wargo of Manville, NJ; she predeceased him on June 21, 1977. After graduation from college Robert was hired by Procter and Gamble Co., Cincinnati, OH, where he resided for a number of years, before being transferred to Staten Island, NY, and finally transferred to P&G’s newest plant in Mehoopany, PA in 1967. He resided in Camptown for years, He met and married Janet McCarty of Endicott, NY, on January 21, 1978, they moved to Tunkhannock, PA, where they lived until moving back to Totem Lake, in 2000. He retired from P&G after 41 years in 1989. Robert was a member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church, Tunkhannock, PA. He enjoyed playing tennis, listening to and playing music, woodworking, and working in the garden. Chaffee and fiancé Julia Dalton Pocono Pines, PA Shana Gary Costa Mesa, CA Hillary Gary Sinking Springs, PA Great-Grandchildren: Savannah, Lucas, Brooklyn Milne Step-Children: Kimberly (Thomas) Rhodes Washington DC Gregg Thoma Philadelphia, PA Kirk Thoma Pittsburgh, PA Two nieces. He was predeceased by a sister Doris Bevan. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 28th, 2013, at 11:00A.M. at the Camptown United Methodist Church, Camptown, PA, with the Rev. Peter F. Geschwindner presiding. Interment will be in the Camptown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that people make a donation to a charity of one’s choice.
