Weisbrod, age 75 of Dutch Mountain Road, Lopez, PA, passed away surrounded by love and family on Friday, September 27, 2013. Gene was born August 7, 1938, in Mills Hospital in Towanda, PA, son of the late Carl Weisbrod and Geraldine Fulmer Weisbrod Pehonich. He graduated from Turnpike High School, a member of the class of 1957. He married his high school sweetheart, Gloria A. Hoodak of Lopez, PA on May 9, 1959. Gene and Gloria recently celebrated their 54th Anniversary. Not a person to sit still, Gene started working when he was eight years old on his grandfather’s farm. He worked in the woods with his Dad, for PP&L, and for the local labor union in Williamsport. Gene later worked for McDonald’s Radio and Electric as an electrician, the Wilkes-Barre Electric Union after the ’72 Flood, and the Bertel Can Company. Gene assisted with the building of the Swiss Chalet Dinner Theater before going into business with Ron Gutosky and opening Windsor House, an appliance/furniture store which specialized in Electrical Contracting in Dushore. Together they remodeled, opened, and operated Dushore Market until he retired. After which Gene worked for Rexer’s Drilling until becoming disabled. While his children were growing up Gene was always coming home to a household full of kids. Giving hugs and bringing out blushes in the girls, even as adults are things the kids and their friends will never forget. He taught many Sullivan County children how to shoot in his 4-H Rifle Club and he was a coach for the Lopez Little League Team. He was Fire Chief of the Lopez Fire Company, a committee chairman for Boy Scouts, and a member of White Ash Land Association. Gene served as a school board member for 10 years and was the first school board member ever to hand their child a diploma, which he did several times. Gene was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mildred, the Sullivan County Historical Society, and the Lopez Civic Association. Gene is survived by his loving and devoted wife Gloria, at home. His children: Eugene(Debi) Weisbrod of Towanda, PA, Robert (Stephanie) Weisbrod of Earleville, MD, Susan (Nathan) Kinsey, Lopez, PA, and Sandra Weisbrod of Kingwood, TX.
