Richard Kelley Clarahan, age 85, of Hackettstown died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Paragon Village Asst. Living of Hackettstown, NJ. Mr. Clarahan was born December 29, 1927 in St. Louis, MO. He is the son of the late Leo E. and the late Ethel (Kelley) Clarahan. Richard was also predeceased by his wife Martha (Gross) Clarahan, April 23, 2008. He was employed by Norfolk and Southern Railroad, New York City, NY as a National Sales Manager for many years before retiring. Richard enjoyed an active participation in his parishes throughout his life. He was a Eucharistic Minister, gifted lector for St. Basil the Great and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Dushore, Pa. Richard served as Secretary of the Eagles Mere Country Club; President and Treasurer of the Lion’s Club both of Eagles Mere, PA and was on the board of Victim Services in Sullivan County, PA. Richard was an avid golfer. As a young man, he won many prizes for the family and made his first hole-in-one at the age of 62. The most important part of Richard’s life though, was the “love of his Irish Heart”, Martha. He is survived by 5 daughters; Susan Benoit and husband Paul, Mary Layton, Marjorie Blevins, Lisa Alarcon and husband Robert, Martha Jane Method and husband Jason 4 sons; Michael Clarahan and wife Rebecca, Richard Clarahan and wife Susan, Robert Clarahan and wife Theresa, Steven Clarahan; 1 sister; Doris Johnson; 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He showered all of them with love and guided them to his greatest joy, God his Father. There will be no visitation. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 22 at 10 am at St. Mary’s R.C. Church of the Assumption, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, LaPorte, PA following the mass. For those desiring, donations may be made to Home Instead Senior Care, Washington, NJ or either parish, St. Mary’s Church of the Assumption, Hackettstown, NJ or his daily mass parish, Our Lady of the Mountain, Schooley’s Mountain Rd., Long Valley, NJ where he received both love and joy.
