McCarty, age 81, of Chillaway Farms, Browntown, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Robert was born in Sayre, PA, on December 15, 1931, son of the late M. Graydon and Madelene Dunklee McCarty. He attended the Wyalusing High School and graduated in the class of 1949, of which he was the class president. He has organized many class reunions over the years. Bob then attended the Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, PA, followed by General Motors Institute in Flint, MI. He married his high school sweetheart, the former Marilyn Clapper of Laceyville, on August 17, 1952; they just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. Shortly thereafter he was drafted into the Unites States Army during the Korean Conflict. He served in Virginia and Kentucky for two years before being honorably discharged. Bob came home and joined the family business working at Taylor McCarty and Sons, Inc, GM Automobile dealership, eventually taking over the business over from his father, which he sold in 1993 when he retired. He was a member of the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder, and also enjoyed attending the Sugar Run Presbyterian Church. Bob was a past president of the Wyalusing Business Association, a member of the Laceyville Rotary, and the Wyalusing Rainbow Club. He was a member of the Wyalusing American Legion Post #534. He was a member of the Wyalusing Masonic Lodge #618 F.&A.M., Irem Temple AAONMS, Dallas, PA, and the Keystone Consistory, Scranton, PA. He was a past board member of the Wyalusing Industrial Development Corp., and a craft advisory board member of the Bradford County VoTech School. He was a board member of the GM Dealer technician training at LCCC. He enjoyed living on the family homestead, Chillaway Farms, where he raised polled Hereford cattle and did custom combining. He enjoyed hunting. He was an avid NASCAR fan and sponsor; he enjoyed all types of motorsports, and especially enjoyed watching his son race. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA with the Rev. Barry Ballard officiating. Interment will be at the Wyalusing Cemetery, Wyalusing, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Members of Wyalusing Masonic Lodge #618 F.&A.M. will conduct a Masonic Service at 9:45 A.M. Saturday morning at the funeral home.
