Joan graduated from Notre Dame High School a member of the class of 1954. Joan was a former resident of Swarthmore, PA. She married Bruce Bortz and moved to Wyalusing in 1986. Bruce predeceased her in 1993. She later married Lynn F. Karge who predeceased her on May 18, 1996. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching old movies, relaxing with needlepoint, crosswords and cryptograms. She had a great love for her family but liked to keep to herself. Until her last day she lived life the way she saw fit. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Also in her earlier years she had a great love for gardening and loved to care for her prized rose bushes. Surviving: two daughters: Marie Denise (Denny) Bortz of Reading, PA and Elizabeth J. (Becky) Bortz of Ridley Park, PA; grandson, Harold J.(Bud and Tasha) Mease of Wilmot; two granddaughters, Bonnie Wadsworth of N.J. and Kellianne E. Johnston of N.C. and a great grandson, Shane Wadsworth; a sister, Margaret Topper of Middletown, PA and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Bruce Bortz of Morton, PA. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dushore Ambulance, Towanda Memorial Hospital and P. Dean Funeral home. Funeral Services were held at the convenience of the family, arrangements were under the direction of the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA.
