Eleanor was born on February 5, 1916, in Rummerfield, PA a daughter of the late John K. and Alphia Wells McPherson. She graduated from the Camptown High School in the class of 1931. After graduation she worked locally, and then met and married Leland Thompson, on March 1, 1936. He predeceased her on January 3, 1966. She helped tend to the farm and later went to work for the Wyalusing School District, and then American Meter Co, until its closing, and then Taylor McCarty and Sons, until retiring in 1981. In retirement she stayed very active. She volunteered for the Area Agency on Aging, serving on their advisory board. She was a member of the Camptown United Methodist Church, the Camptown United Methodist Women, the Camptown Civic Club, and the Wyalusing Senior Citizens group. She served as a member on the Election Board for Wyalusing Township and was very proud of her 71 year voting record for Bradford County. Eleanor was a past Worthy Matron and Secretary for the Order of Easter Star Wyalusing Valley Chapter #523 and Meshoppen Chapter #70, as well as a past District Deputy. Eleanor was the first curator of the Wyalusing Valley Museum. She authored numerous articles for the Towanda Daily Review and Slice of Life, as well as local news items for the Rocket Courier. She thoroughly enjoyed doing crafts; she especially enjoyed Halloween and making Halloween costumes. Eleanor loved cooking for her family and friends. Surviving: are daughters: Kathryn E (Donald) Benjamin, Catasauqua, PA and Jody (Mern) Stroud, Wysox, PA; Grandchildren: Donald E. (Chyrl) Benjamin Jr.,Charleston, SC; Alan D. (Ann Marie) Benjamin, Bordentown, NJ; Elizabeth (Daniel) Forman, Sinking Spring, PA; Scott C. (Nikki) Benjamin, McDonald, PA; Frank L. (Stacey) Thompson, Wyalusing, PA; Aline (Jason) Petlock, Waverly, NY; Jeffery L. Williams, Des Moines, IA; Abigail J. Robinson, Endicott, NY; Eric W. Thompson, Los Angeles, CA; Erin (Jon) Smith, Atlanta, GA Also 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sons, John F Thompson in 1987, and Charles Edward Thompson in 2006, great grandson Emery Joseph Robinson in 2012, brother John McPherson, and sister Alice Snyder. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 1:00 PM, at the Camptown United Methodist Church, Camptown, PA with Rev. William Westbrook officiating. Friends and family may call at the church from 11:30AM until the time of the service. The Order of the Eastern Star will have a ceremony at 11:30 A.M.
