Heaney, age 78, of Muncy Valley, PA passed away peacefully June 17, 2012 at his home with his loving family at his side. John was born, January 12, 1934 in New York City a son of the late John J. & Margaret Meehan Heaney. He graduated from the Cardinal Hayes High School in 1952 and from Manhattan College in 1956. He married the former Mary Alice Anner of the Bronx on September 7, 1957; they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary last year. John taught at Theodore Roosevelt High School for over 33 years, was chair of the department and became assistant principle for a time. He taught Mathematics, Accounting, and Swimming. He was also an adjunct professor at City College. Between High School and College John spent almost two years as a Trappist Monk at the Abby at Gethsemani in Kentucky. John was a member of St. Boniface’s Church in Williamsport, PA Surviving: Spouse: Mary Alice at home, Three sons: John J. Heaney Jr., Rutherford, NJ; Michael B (Kirsten) Heaney PhD., Palo Alto, CA; Thomas J. (Pauline) Heaney, Bloomfield, NJ; Two daughters: Teresa (Abelardo) de la Teja, Indian Shores, FL; Ann (John) Wilson, Pittstown, NJ. Nephew: Patrick Heaney Newport, RI. 11 grandchildren, Melissa de la Teja, Robert de la Teja, John Wilson, Catherine Wilson, Michael Wilson, Brian Wilson, Danika Heaney, Kerawin Heaney, Connor Heaney, Brendan Heaney, Aidan Heaney, and baby girl Heaney to be! John was predeceased by a son, Peter Heaney in 1985 and a brother, Kevin Heaney and a sister, Marion Green. A Transferal Service will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 9:00 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, pastor, presiding. Interment will be in the adjoining parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 20th from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
