Gerald Doyle, age 71, lifelong resident of Mildred, PA passed away on Tuesday, June 05, 2012 at his home with his loving family at his side. Jerry was born October 17, 1940 son of Joseph E. & Kathryn A. O’Neill Doyle. He graduated from the Turnpike High School, a member of the class of 1959. He married the former Betty Jane Siegel of Ganoga Lake on February 27, 1960 they recently celebrated their 52 wedding anniversary. He was employed by Endicott Johnson Shoe Factory in Mildred and later owned and operated Doyle’s Excavating and Doyle’s Garage & Auto. He later worked for Cherry Township from which he retired. Jerry was a life member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Mildred, PA. He was also an active member of the Mildred Fire and Ambulance Assoc. for over 40 years. Over the years he managed and coached numerous championship softball teams, including York Resources, Flynn Motors, Corkey’s and Doyle’s Auto. He was instrumental in organizing the Ringdale Softball Field and League. He was an avid NASCAR fan and attended races at many tracks including the Daytona 500 for over thirty years and enjoyed spending time at his family farm. He was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Towanda for 47 years, the Danville Moose for 44 years and the Elks in Towanda for 44 years. Jerry bowled in Towanda Leagues for over 30. Surviving: his spouse, Betty Jane at home; son, David (Francine) Doyle, Mildred, PA; daughter, Connie (Hank) Barnes, Morrisville, NC; twin sisters: Jean & Joan Doyle, Mildred, PA; grandchildren; Alix & Danny Barnes and MacKenzie & Jake Doyle; brother-in-law, Ray McGlothlin of Hillsgrove and a niece, Vikki McGlothlin, a nephew, Chuck (Laura) McGlothlin, several cousins, many devoted friends and his faithful dog, Brody. He was predeceased by a son, Daniel J. Doyle on August 22, 1982 and a sister-in-law, Mary Lu McGlothlin on July 22, 2004. A Transferal Service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 9:30 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in the adjoining parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, June 10, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.
